The new search tool in Windows 8 lets you find files and programs by typing the first few letters of a name. You can then refine your search and open the item you want.
This is not radically different to Windows 7 and Vista, where you click the Start button and type a query into the search box, but you can make things even faster by installing Launchy. Launchy Works with Windows XP, Vista and 7.
To use this free launcher, just press Alt+Space; start typing the name of a program, file or web address; and hit Enter to open it. The software indexes your Start menu, browser bookmarks and any other folders you choose, so your favourites are always at your fingertips.
