Display/Hide Formatting Marks on Word 2007

It can helpful to see special characters in Word that don’t appear when the document is printed, such as space and tab markers, to track down formatting problems.

Text can also be hidden, which is handy if you want to explain sections of documents without this appearing on the printout.

The icon to display these marks is found in the Paragraph section of the Home tab in the Ribbon, and it looks like ¶.

If you would rather have only one or two of these marks visible all the time, click on the File menu and then on Options. Click on Display and click in the boxes to select the different formatting marks you would like to see. Click on OK to save the changes.

This option can be found in Word 2007 by clicking on the Office button and then Word Options. Click on Display in the left-hand column to see the options.
